Benin, Edo - The Senate of University of Benin (UNIBEN) has shutdown academic activities indefinitely following the refusal of students of the University to shift grounds on their demands for twenty four hours supply of electricity amongst other things which the institution considered unrealistic.

This was contained in a statement signed by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire

According to the statement, students are to vacate the hostels immediately while all the relevant units of the university are to take note and comply

The non teaching staff and staff on essential duties are however not affected by the shut down of the university.

The students had on Tuesday decided to stage a protest over what they described as resultant hardship from the power outage, blocking the outbound route of the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
