Benin, Edo – The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, has called on Nigerians to maintain optimism for the new year despite ongoing national challenges, emphasizing faith in Christ as a source of hope and transformation.
Speaking at the hospital's Nine Lessons and Carol night combined with an end-of-year party for staff and students in Benin City, Prof. Ize-Iyamu expressed confidence that 2026 would bring positive improvements for individuals, the nation, and the institution.
"Let's hope in Him. When you have Christ, you have hope. We are hopeful that the coming year will be better as a people and as an institution," she said, highlighting the significance of Christ's birth as the true reason for the Christmas season.
The CMD, who assumed office in August 2025 as UBTH's first female leader, thanked the hospital community for their support during her initial four months in the role.
She reaffirmed the institution's commitment to excellence and professionalism, noting that "UBTH CARES and just like Christ cares."
"I want to appreciate everyone in the spirit of the season. Our commitment to excellence and professionalism remains at UBTH," Prof. Ize-Iyamu added.
A key highlight of the event was a compassionate visit to the hospital wards, where the CMD, accompanied by management, staff, and students, distributed gifts to patients and newborns, spreading festive cheer and reinforcing the hospital's caring ethos.
The celebration underscored UBTH's blend of professional dedication and community spirit as the year draws to a close.
