Benin, Edo – The Edo State Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa on Thursday pressed the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to fast-track five lingering interstate boundary crises, warning that delays are stoking insecurity, revenue theft, and threats to border communities.
Hosting NBC Director General Surv. Adamu Adaji and his team, Idahosa, who chairs the Edo State Boundary Committee, listed the flashpoints:
Unfinished Edo/Kogi boundary monumentation
Prolonged delay in Edo/Delta boundary resolution
Platform Petroleum’s attempt to drill in Edo’s Urhonigbe community, Orhionmwon LGA
Unlawful crediting of Seplat oil-well revenue from Orogho community,
Orhionmwon LGA, to Delta State
Attempted attack on Edo survey officers during Edo/Ondo fieldwork
“These are not paper problems they threaten lives, peace, and Edo’s rightful revenue,” Idahosa told the NBC delegation.
He singled out the Seplat wells in Orogho, insisting the facilities sit squarely in Edo territory yet their 13% derivation funds are routed to Delta.
In a direct appeal, Idahosa called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order an immediate halt to the “unlawful attribution.”
The deputy governor also flagged Platform Petroleum’s drilling move in Urhonigbe as a breach of Edo’s sovereignty, while the near-fatal assault on Edo officers during Ondo fieldwork underscored rising risks.
Reaffirming Governor Monday Okpebholo’s preference for dialogue, Idahosa stressed: “Edo is open to lawful, peaceful solutions but we will defend our land and our people.”
The NBC team pledged to escalate the issues to Abuja. No timeline was given.
