Benin, Edo – Residents of Edo State are intensifying calls for improved service delivery from the newly established New Edo Line, a state-managed transportation service, following growing frustrations over its operational inefficiencies.
The demand was sparked by a viral post on X from Emmanuel Ikhenebome (@enebome), who urged authorities to ensure round-the-clock service as long as staff are paid by the Edo State Government.
In a post shared on Tuesday, Ikhenebome wrote: "We demand effective service delivery 247 as long as the @NewEdoLine staff draws their salaries and entitlements from @EdoStateGovt."
The statement, which has garnered significant attention, was a direct response to earlier complaints about the service’s inability to facilitate trip bookings, as highlighted by user ALEAKHUE (@JaySlim1_) earlier.
The controversy began when @JaySlim1_ posted a screenshot at 8:35 AM WAT showing a failed attempt to book a trip on the New Edo Line website, which displayed a "No trips found" message.
The user expressed skepticism about the management’s readiness, questioning the purpose of the platform if it consistently fails to deliver.
Subsequent exchanges on the platform saw users tagging @NewEdoLine and the Edo State Government, with @JaySlim1_ later agreeing with Ikhenebome’s demand, stating, "They're not serious at all."
The New Edo Line, launched as part of the Edo State Government’s initiative to modernize transportation and boost economic growth, falls under the Edo State Transport Authority’s mandate to coordinate and implement innovative mobility solutions.
However, the current outage of its online booking system has fueled public discontent, with many residents echoing Ikhenebome’s call for accountability given that staff salaries are funded by taxpayer money.
Edo State Government officials have yet to issue an official response to the social media outcry as of this report.
Sources within the transport authority suggest to DAILY SOUTH NIGERIA that issues may stem from technical glitches or insufficient scheduling, though no confirmation has been provided.
