Lawmaker advocate passage of health Bill to safeguard Edo people.

Benin, Edo - In a significant session at the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Richard O. Edosa, the representative of Oredo West Constituency and Deputy Chief Whip, passionately advocated for the passage of the Edo Health Regulatory Agency (Edoherma) Bill.
The bill aims to establish a dedicated agency to regulate health facilities across Edo State, ensuring safe and quality healthcare for all residents.
During the plenary session Friday, Hon. Edosa highlighted the pressing issues plaguing the state's healthcare system. He pointed out the dangerous practices of unqualified individuals operating in pharmacies and chemist shops, who are administering injections and performing minor surgeries—tasks that should be reserved for trained professionals in licensed hospitals.
He also raised concerns about the unchecked sale of harmful drugs such as tramadol and codeine, which are severely impacting the youth.
"The proliferation of private clinics and laboratories is overwhelming the Ministry of Health's capacity to monitor them effectively," Hon. Edosa stated.
According to him, "Most troubling are the fake practitioners using so-called 'computerized' devices to provide false diagnoses and unverified treatments, leading to preventable deaths in our communities."
Hon. Edosa emphasized that the Edoherma Bill would address these critical issues by creating a regulatory framework to oversee health facilities, thereby protecting the public from exploitation and ensuring access to reliable healthcare, especially for the most vulnerable populations.
In his address, he called on his colleagues to support the bill, underscoring its potential to safeguard the health and well-being of Edo State residents.
