Enugu – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the cancellation of a planned maintenance operation at the New Haven 132/33kV Substation, originally scheduled to begin today, Friday, October 24, 2025.
The decision, detailed in an official statement posted on X by TCN’s official handle @TCN_NIGERIA, cites unforeseen technical constraints encountered during the initial phase of the work.
The maintenance, which was set to run from Thursday, October 23, to Thursday, October 31, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily, would have involved a scheduled outage affecting several key feeders.
These include Emene Line 1, Emene Line 2, Thinkers Corner, Transekulu, Ugwuogo, and Itukuozalla. The outage was intended to facilitate critical upgrades and repairs at the substation, a vital hub in Nigeria’s power transmission network.
However, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that the operation has been postponed indefinitely due to technical difficulties encountered early in the process. The company has assured the public that a new date and time for the maintenance will be communicated in due course, urging patience as they address the challenges.
The cancellation comes as a relief to residents and businesses in the affected areas, who were bracing for potential power disruptions. The New Haven substation serves a significant portion of Enugu’s power distribution network, and the planned outage had raised concerns about economic activities in the region.
While the postponement avoids immediate inconvenience, it also highlights ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s power infrastructure, where maintenance schedules are often disrupted by technical or logistical issues.
