Benin, Edo – In a decisive move to combat rising insecurity within one of Nigeria’s premier healthcare institutions, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has officially reopened its once-dilapidated police post after a comprehensive facelift spearheaded by Chief Medical Director, Prof. (Mrs) Idia Ize-Iyamu.

The refurbished outpost, strategically located within the hospital premises, now features air-conditioned offices, 24-hour uninterrupted power supply, modern detention cells, and enhanced sanitary facilities – transforming a previously non-functional eyesore into a state-of-the-art security hub.

Prior to the intervention, the facility had fallen into severe disrepair: leaking roofs, erratic electricity, broken furniture, and unusable toilets rendered it ineffective despite its strategic importance in a tertiary hospital serving over 1.5 million patients annually from Edo and neighboring states.

The refurbished UBTH Police Post stands as a testament to what focused leadership can achieve – even in the face of systemic neglect.
