Edo NUJ mourns veteran journalist, late Adibe Emeyonu

Benin, Edo – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has announced the sudden passing of one of its esteemed members, Mr. Austin Adibe Emeyonu, the State Correspondent for THISDAY Newspapers.
Emeyonu, a dedicated voice in Nigerian journalism, died on the night of Friday, October 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of insightful reporting and camaraderie among colleagues.
In a somber statement released Saturday, NUJ Edo State Chairman Dr. Festus Alenkhe and Secretary Mr. Andy Egbon described Emeyonu as a vibrant and irreplaceable figure in the state's media landscape.
"With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our dear brother, Mr. Austin Adibe Emeyonu," the statement read.
"He was full of life until the very end, spotted at the Press Centre in Benin City earlier that day, interacting freely with his colleagues.", the statement further reads
Emeyonu, whose professional journey included stints at various media outlets, had been a fixture in Edo State's reporting scene for years.
His work with THISDAY focused on local politics, development issues, and human interest stories, earning him respect for his tenacity and fairness.
The Edo NUJ has called for prayers and support for Emeyonu's family during this difficult time.
