Asaba, Delta – In a groundbreaking fusion of technology and inclusive pedagogy, a youth-led initiative supported by the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) is transforming the landscape of special education for Deaf children across Nigeria.

The project, titled "Integrating ICT in Multilingual Multimodal Teaching in Special Education for the Deaf," has rolled out innovative training programs in Delta and Anambra States over the past several months, equipping educators with cutting-edge tools to bridge communication gaps and foster equitable learning environments.

Launched earlier this year as part of NYFF's broader mission to amplify youth-driven social change, the project addresses a critical void in Nigeria's education system, where over 1.5 million Deaf individuals—many of them children—face barriers rooted in outdated teaching methods and limited access to adaptive technologies.

By weaving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into multilingual and multimodal frameworks, the initiative promotes the use of sign language, visual aids, interactive digital platforms, and translanguaging practices to make classrooms more accessible and engaging.

At the heart of the effort are intensive training sessions that have reached dozens of teachers and hundreds of students in key institutions, including the Marie Des Anges School for the Deaf in Asaba, Delta State, and the St. John's Special Education Centre in Onitsha, Anambra State.
