Abeokuta, Ogun – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has reaffirmed its commitment to community development by renovating dilapidated classrooms and donating essential teaching materials to Aaya Community Primary School, located near the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA).
The official handover ceremony was held on Friday, as shared by FUNAAB on X.
The revitalization project, spearheaded by the university’s Technical Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), transformed the school’s learning environment, which had previously posed safety risks to pupils, particularly in grades 4 through 6.
During the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde emphasized the critical role of primary education as the foundation of national development.
“Without the efforts of teachers at this level, the university cannot admit quality students,” he stated, underscoring the project’s alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 4, and 16—focused on poverty reduction, quality education, and peaceful societies.
Prof. Kehinde also made a personal donation to further equip the school with instructional resources, reinforcing FUNAAB’s people-centered mission.
The head teacher, Mrs. Dorcas Gbenjo, expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the intervention as “timely and life-saving.” She revealed that the rapid renovation, completed despite a short notice before the school’s resumption, addressed unsafe conditions that had persisted for some time.
Pupils, represented by Head Boy Master Semilogo Babalola, and community leaders, including Mr. Solomon Omonitan and Mrs. Augusta Edun, also lauded the university’s efforts to extend educational opportunities to the grassroots.
