Auchi, Edo – A recently completed classroom project at Ojah Comprehensive High School in Akoko Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State has sparked controversy, with allegations of substandard construction and potential misuse of public funds.
The project, valued at ₦222 million and overseen by the Federal Polytechnic Auchi under the Federal Ministry of Education, has drawn scrutiny from the monitoring group MonITNG, which shared images and details on X earlier on Thursday.
The project was awarded to Sam Sedi Nig. Ltd., a contractor with a troubling track record. This same company has been linked to the abandoned Construction of Warake to Ivbiaro Road project in Owan East LGA, valued at ₦200 million, as well as a controversial agricultural empowerment program in Etsako communities.
All these projects were reportedly facilitated by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, adding a political dimension to the unfolding saga.
MonITNG’s report alleges a pattern of procurement manipulation and inflated contracts, pointing to possible diversion of public resources. The group has called for an immediate investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the contract award process, financial transactions, and the roles of the contractor and political facilitators.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Auchi Polytechnic have yet to issue an official response to the allegations, while Senator Oshiomhole’s office has not commented on his alleged role in facilitating the contracts.
The case underscores a broader concern about the quality of infrastructure projects funded by taxpayer money, with many demanding transparency and durable outcomes over mere completion certificates.
