Benin, Edo – The Edo State Police Command has taken swift action in response to a viral social media video posted by an influencer, alleging that officers from the Oba Market Area Command extorted ₦300,000 from a furniture maker in Benin City.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Command confirmed that the implicated officers have been identified and detained.

The extorted sum of ₦300,000 has been fully recovered and returned to the victim. The officers involved are set to face disciplinary procedures in line with Nigeria Police Force regulations.

To prevent future misconduct, the Command has implemented strict administrative measures at the Oba Market Area Command to promote professionalism, discipline, and respect for citizens’ rights.

The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika, urged the public to report unprofessional conduct through the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) or Complaints Response Unit (CRU) via dedicated lines: 08150999335 and 08100389992.

The statement reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to upholding integrity, accountability, and high standards in service delivery.

It also expressed gratitude to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, AIG Salman Dogo, for his support in fostering transparent and accountable policing in the region.

The Edo State Police Command assured residents of its dedication to protecting their rights and maintaining public trust.
