Ewu, Delta – A video circulating on social media has ignited widespread concern over the conditions at Eghereka Primary School in Ewu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The footage, shared by X user @ChuksEricE, depicts nursery students sitting on the floor during school hours, highlighting a stark lack of basic infrastructure in a region known for its significant oil and gas resources.

The video, which has garnered significant attention, shows a classroom filled with young students in green and white uniforms, seated directly on the concrete floor.

The setting appears cramped, with limited space and no visible desks or chairs.

The post, titled "Nursery students of Eghereka Primary School, Ewu, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, were spotted taking lectures yesterday during school hours," has prompted a strong reaction from the online community.

Local resident and X user @VivianRora expressed disbelief, stating, "You won’t believe this is an oil producing state." The sentiment reflects a broader frustration with the disparity between the region's wealth from oil production and the apparent neglect of public services, particularly education.

In response to the video, Hon. Wakajugbe, a prominent figure on X, assured that the issue would be escalated and looked into, quoting the original post and emphasizing its importance.

This pledge comes amidst growing calls for accountability from both local and online communities.

Delta State, despite being one of Nigeria's leading oil-producing regions, faces challenges in educational infrastructure, as evidenced by the conditions at Eghereka Primary School.

The school's situation is not isolated; a recent incident reported by Daily Post Nigeria detailed a school building collapse at the same institution, resulting in the death of a pupil and injuries to three others.

This tragedy underscores the urgent need for improved facilities and safety measures in the region's schools.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education regarding the conditions at Eghereka Primary School.

The ministry, responsible for formulating and implementing educational policies, has yet to address the public outcry or outline steps to rectify the situation.

The juxtaposition of the school's dire conditions against the backdrop of Delta State's economic potential has sparked a broader conversation about the equitable distribution of resources and the prioritization of education in oil-rich regions.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in Nigeria's educational sector, where despite significant revenue from natural resources, many children still lack access to basic learning environments.
