Benin, Edo – The Edo State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution urging the state government and security agencies to take immediate steps to address the escalating wave of kidnappings in Etsako East Local Government Area and across the state.

The resolution was passed on Monday following a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Kingsley Ugabi, the representative of Etsako East Constituency.

During his presentation, Hon. Ugabi highlighted the growing insecurity in his constituency, where frequent kidnappings and other criminal activities have forced many farmers to abandon their farmlands.

He emphasized that farmers, critical to the state’s food production, are the worst affected, with many avoiding their farms due to fear of attacks.

“This situation is undermining food security in Edo State and the nation at large,” Ugabi warned, calling for urgent measures to tackle the crisis.Other lawmakers echoed Ugabi’s concerns, raising alarms about similar incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery in their constituencies.

They stressed the need for decisive action to restore safety and protect residents.The House resolved to strengthen community policing and implement robust security measures to curb the rising tide of kidnappings across Edo State.

The lawmakers urged the state government and security agencies to act swiftly to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and food production in the region.

The resolution comes amid growing public concern over insecurity, with citizens calling for coordinated efforts to address the menace and ensure the safety of communities across Edo State.
