Edo Governor Mandates Entrepreneurship Skills Training for JSS 3 Students

Benin, Edo – In a bold move to foster economic independence and equip the next generation with practical skills, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has mandated compulsory entrepreneurship skills training for all Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 students across the state.
The initiative, announced by the ministry of education in a memo dated August 19, 2025 is part of the state's policy on education to combat youth unemployment and drive sustainable economic growth.
According to the memo signed by the commissioner, Dr Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, the initiative aims to instill entrepreneurial mindsets and practical abilities in young Edo indigenes.
"All executive principals and school heads of junior and senior secondary schools in the state are hereby informed that, as part of the ministry's ongoing reforms to bolster basic education students before graduation, a mandatory four-week intensive entrepreneurship skills training for all JSS 3 Students.", the memo stated
The policy, which is set to be integrated into the state’s education curriculum, will see JSS 3 students trained in various vocational and entrepreneurial skills, including plumbing, POP installation, GSM repairs, Solar installation and maintenance, CCTV, intercom installation and maintenance, agriculture, and technology-driven enterprises.
Upon completion of the training, a certificate will be issued to the students and also BECE certificate.
