PHOTO Inside Edo Edo Assembly resumes plenary, as more defections hit PDP

Benin, Edo – After a month-long recess, lawmakers at the Edo State House of Assembly reconvened on Monday, with significant political shifts.

In view of this ,the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku reaffirmed that the 8th Assembly remains united, despite recent defections and differing party affiliation.

The Speaker officially announced the defection of two lawmakers, Andrew Uzamere, representing Ovia North-East II and Ojei Eugene Inegiebor, representing Igueben from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to the All Progressives Congress APC.

Despite the shifting political landscape, the Speaker emphasized the need for unity among lawmakers, urging members to put the interests of their constituents above personal or party.

The Majority Leader, Hon Jonathan Ibhamawu in a welcome message to the defectors, expressed excitement over the increase in the Number of APC members in the House, stressing that the Party is united and they all equal, and they are ready to work with the new members.

Also speaking, Hon Ojezele said the APC is a moving train, disclosing that of the 990 State Assembly legislators in Nigeria about 70 percent of them are in APC. With the recent defections, the APC now holds 20 seats in the House, while the PDP’s representation drops to four.

Also at plenary , the clerk of the House Alhaji Yahaya Audu Omogbai read four letters from the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo in which four bills were transmitted to the House, The Speaker thereafter committed the bills to the committee on Rules and Business.

The House then adjourned sitting to Tuesday 29th, 2025 After an adjournment motion by Hon Sunday Fada Eigberomonlen and seconded by Hon Edosa Osaro.
