Benin, Edo – A Senior Advocate of Nigeria based in Benin, capital of Edo State, Olayiwola Afolabi has urged Governor Monday Okpebholo to immediately appoint a commissioner for transport to check the present decadence in the transportation sector in the state.

‎Afolabi made the call while speaking during a monitored radio program on Sunday.

‎He noted: "Edo State is a good state. I love the state very well.

‎"The governor is trying. He is repairing roads. For example, he is working on the Benin-Auchi Road. Also, he is building a flyover in Benin City

‎"Nevertheless, I am not happy with what is happening in Benin Metropolis. Many traffic lights are not working and persons in uniforms are using these shortcomings to extort travellers and other motorists in the city.

‎"Moreover, thugs are everywhere harassing and collecting illegal levies from commercial and private vehicle owners with no receipts issued daily and on sundays. In fact, things are getting worse. Anyway, these thugs do not harass lawyers like us when they see our insignia on our vehicles.

‎"The governor must go out to see things for himself. He needs to know that people in Benin City are suffering in the hands of thugs."

‎According to the legal icon, appointing a commissioner of transport in the state will help to curb the nefarious activities of these thugs once and for all.
