A woman, Mrs Sandra Monday who was forcibly taken away from her home on December 20, 2024, has regained her freedom after spending nearly sixteen days in captivity.

Sources say Mrs Monday, a mother of two, returned to the warm embrace of her family members on January 5, 2025 after paying millions of naira as ransome to her abductors.

Our correspondent gathered that the woman was abducted by three gunmen from her residence at No.5, Noruwa street , Benin City at about 8 pm on December 20th,2024.

"Immediately the gunmen came to her house, she was about entering the house when they held her at gunpoint. She was then blind folded and driven away in a Lexus 350 jeep", a member of the family told our reporter.

The sources further said that the victim was taken to the Ovia river where they put her in a boat and later kept her in the kidnappers' hideout in the thick of the forest.

"The kidnappers did not contact her family until five or six days after her abduction. They were warned not to inform the police otherwise she would be dead. They demanded for fifty million naira ransome, but after days of pleading and negotiations, the family rallied to raise some money which was paid to the kidnappers. Eventually, she was released on January 5,2025 and has now re- united with her family", the sources close to her family stated.

She hinted that the woman has gone out of public circle as she fears her life is still not safe.
