Benin, Edo – The Edo State House of Assembly has passed the bill for a law to repeal the Edo State secret cult prohibition bill 2025, and a bill for a law to provide for the extension of retirement age of magistrate and presidents of area customary courts in Edo State.

This is sequel to the presentation and consideration of the report of the house standing committee on rules, business and government house chaired by the majority leader Honourable Charity Aiguobarueghian.

Speaking during the committee of the whole, the majority leader noted that the bill, if passed, will address the incessant cult clashes as well as present lasting solutions to cultism in the state.

In the same vein, he maintained that if the magistrates' retirement age is passed, it will put the state magistrates at the same level with their national counterpart.

The speaker right honourable Blessing Agbebaku then directed the clerk Yahaya Omogbai to send clean copies of the bills to the state governor, Monday Okpebholo for assent.

This is a good step. However, the welfare of the Magistrates and Presidents should be improved upon. Their salaries should be reviewed as well and official vehicles should be given. 🙏🙏
